SportDog July 19, 2010 Crystal D Wilson (Hillsborough, NC United States) Sport Dog Collar works perfectly. The original one lasted 3 years before Walker(dog) jumped into the pool with it. Although it is supposed to be water tight it shorted out. The new one we put on is evidently water tight, Walker again jumped in with the collar on(2x) and it still works. I wouldnt suggest letting it on while swimming but it should be alright until you get in to take it off when they accidentaly jump in before you.
Decent at best July 17, 2010 Keith This product is probably great under ideal conditions. The problem I have is that my yard is only about 1/2 acre. Once I bought the product and installed it I started having problems. I spoke with customer service several times and I was told that my yard was probably to small for this system. Also several things can magnify the radio signal making your dogs get zapped in the middle of the yard (e.g. any type of underground utility such as a neighborhood phone cable). I have to turn the range on low and turn the knob down to 2 out of 10 before it will work. Anything higher than 2 makes the collars shock the dogs if they turn a certain way or lay on the ground. As you can imagine the dogs are very confused now. Since I cannot turn the range up more than the setting of 2 the dogs have to get within abour 1 to 2 feet of the wire before they start recieving the correction. I have a husky that is very smart and bad so she has figured out if she starts running she can get through the perimiter without getting shocked. If I had to do it over again I would have bought one of the fences without a wire. These will continue to "correct" until the dog gets back within the perimiter. The buried wire types will only correct in the range established by the knob setting which may not be enough with a small yard.
If you decide to use this product my advise is to scalp the grass, use turf tacks to hold the wire close to the ground, and let the grass roots hold it down. This is what I eventually had to do to make my work decently. I still have to either put my husky on a run or go and find her every 3 or 4 days. If you are interested in buying this system without the wire let me know. [...]
Sport Dog June 12, 2010 Peter T. Rigano (Ohio) This was an add on collar for an existing system. The original one works great and this one does too.! Battery life is good to boot.

We had to purchase a second collar for our geriatric male lab when putting the Petsafe SportDog wireless fence in specifically for our 1 year old male lab mix. Initially I was a little worried that the correction was going to be too stressful for our older dog or that he wasn't going to be able to hear the audible warning the collar makes, neither of these worries occurred. The collars have several levels of correction that you can set for each dog's temperament, etc.. Turned out that we had to set the old dog's correction at level 3 whereas the young dog only required a level 2. It was a little traumatic the first few days of training and the dogs didn't want to get off the porch but we remained patient with them and now they totally know their boundaries and feel free to wander and play within their invisible fence line. Both seem more secure and less territorial having their boundaries well defined for them. The dogs are comfortable in the collars and we only take them off when they go into the kennel or are on a leash. Another bonus is that the batteries are 9 volt and are convenient and inexpensive to replace. Should have implemented this system 10 years ago.
Training collar December 22, 2008 Alton D. Lawrence (New York) I would have given this a 5 star rating but it was recommended that the collar only be worn for an 8 hour period. The functionality of the item is excellent though and I have left it on much longer than the 8 hour recommendation though with no ill effects.
