4 out of 5 stars Very Useful For One Phase of Flea Control, Must Rinse From Cats   August 27, 2010
melodylee1313
As a previous reviewer stated, when fleas have taken a foothold in your home you MUST attack the problem in 2 ways: 1)treat the home! Fleas live in yards, carpets, upholstery, and in crevices in and around wood floors. They jump on pets and humans to feed only, they live in your home. To treat your yard: Use amorphous diatomaceous earth or long lasting chemical spray. To treat carpeted areas: If heavily infested spray first with Hartz Ultraguard, this stops eggs, larvae and pupae from reaching the adult flea stage, but doesn't kill adults. Then treat with Fleabusters Rx powder. This natural powder dries out the climate in the carpet, fleas love moisture. This kills all eggs, larvae, pupae and adults, and when new fleas hitch a ride inside the home via pet or human feet, they die later. This powder takes 1-2 weeks to fully work, hence the need for spraying first. Use this powder under couch cushions, mattresses etc. and in hardwood floor crevices. Works for 1+ years!

2) treat your pets and the areas they sleep in. This spray is good, not too toxic and kills fleas on contact. Flea baths do work OK, but understand that the flea soap must be in contact with skin for 10 MINUTES to kill fleas, otherwise it just knocks them out and they spring back to life later. Trust me on this, I used to be a professional groomer. This spray kills them instantly, but for cats you MUST rinse it off afterward even though the directions do not say so. I used it on my cats, it worked well, but gets very thick and foamy in the coat. As cat owners know, a cat will lick itself from head to toe after a bath or getting wet, my cat got a lick of this stuff and spit up a bit of white foam. Use common sense and RINSE IT OFF OF CATS!!!

Then spray their cat beds and the other areas where they sleep after machine washing. I like this spray because it doesn't smell of harsh chemicals.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. If you use Fleabuster Rx powder every fall you won't have a problem come summertime. I got lazy this year and I'm paying the price by aggressively treating all areas of my home and pets.

5 out of 5 stars You cannot JUST treat your pet but this a great product for that phase =D   July 30, 2010

For those that negatively reviewed this product, that's sad. INSTANTLY I saw the fleas trying to get away and one by one, die within seconds! No, its intended use is not to last for a month like topical treatments (which don't work anyhow). This IS safe for pets!
Here's my advice.
1. Don't waste money experimenting.
2. Start with the house. You WILL have to use something to help the carpets/floors/furniture...THIS IS NOT THE PRODUCT FOR THAT! I suggest Fleabusters RX While it might be a little difficult to apply, its WORTH THE EFFORT!!! And the treatment is guaranteed for a year! You can find it on Amazon for $30. Until it arrives, just vacuum every day...its good exercise anyways.
Did you know that only 5% of the fleas in your home are on your pets? The other 95% are IN YOUR carpets and furniture and pet beds!
3. Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. EVERY DAY!!! THROW THE BAGS IN AN OUTSIDE TRASH CAN AWAY FROM YOUR HOUSE! If you happen to have a bagless vacuum like myself, then clean it out after each use and if you're a freak like me wash it each time with soapy water.
4. Treat pets with this upon first treatment of the house with this stuff! I let this sit in their fur a day. My cat has white fur on her belly. When I sprayed this in that area, I saw all the bloody defication and fleas first hand. =/ Poor kitty. BUT THIS TREATMENT WILL KILL ALL OF THE FLEAS THAT ARE ON YOUR PET THE SECOND YOU SPRAY IT ON THEM.
5. The next day, bathe your pets with flea shampoo. I use the same brand as this spray! You can find that on here for $10. This isn't necessary unless you're a freak like me. You can just use soapy water if you want.
6. Repeat the spray/bath after every 2 weeks for about 4 months. I know it seems like a lot of work, but some of the eggs and stuff can take up to 4 months to hatch!

Then, if you walk a dog or let your pet outdoors, I would suggest dusting their butt with this before letting them in or getting those chewable pills that kill fleas when they bite your pet. Capatrol?? Its called something like that. Especially during flea season if you have one or after playing/encountering with flea infested pets.

I've found topicals and collars to be completely useless...

The only negative thing I can say about this product is that it kind of smells like pepper. Its a weird association to have!

1 out of 5 stars Sorry, it does not work well   July 17, 2010

I used this on 1 dog and 3 cats due to a bad flea problem and wanting to avoid harsh chemicals. It did not work. We sprayed tha pets and through the house and are still facing a huge flea problem.

The spray made the pets sick and also us. Some fleas did die, but not enough to make a worthwhile difference. Our older dog and cat had additional problems for a few days as they reacted to the spray.

I also read the reviews while doing research and only saw one bad review, so I thought it would work. Due to the poor performance I wrote this review to help others to make their decisions.

1 out of 5 stars leaves pet feeling greasy, doesn't last long   June 15, 2010
A. Sharp (Lake Park, GA United States)
This product left my dog's fur feeling thick and greasy. It killed the fleas when sprayed directly on them but the next day he was covered in them again. I again bathed him and sprayed with this product, the next day he was thoroughly infested with fleas. We had sprayed his bedding, our carpets and couches but the product never made the flea situation any better. I would not buy this product again.

4 out of 5 stars The fleas are gone but I am not sure if it was because of this product   May 5, 2010

I used advantage for my cat after not using it for a while. They were in our beds and i used this to try to get them out after changing the sheets. I don't like the fact that they tell you not to use it for humans but you can use it for pets. May be it's a law suit thing but I was looking for one i could use on my bed.
