junk, dont buy it July 26, 2010 simpleman1776 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
the wire is junk, made in china, when it rains it shorts out, there are tiny pin holes in the insulation.
heavy humidity and it shorts out.
unit shorts out and has to be unplugged and reset.
save your money, buy a fence, i wasted $650.00 on this for 5 dogs and I got 3 500 dollar tickets as a result of it.
buy a real fence.
my neighbor across the street wasted $450.00 on his 2 dogs, has same problem, i rewired my entire yard 3 times and he did it 2 times and it still shorts out..
stay away, petsafe dont give a damn..
my 3 shepherds are missing right now as soon as they return they're going back on a chain.
this unit is going in the trash.
in fact i might smash it and send it to petsafe postage due.
Great Product July 24, 2010 SandyS The PetSafe wireless Containment system works great to keep our black Lab mix in our yard. He quickly learned his boundries and has not strayed once since then. Even when the neighborhood dogs come over to play he will not follow them out of the yard when they leave. Our property is all rock so it is nice not having to jack hammer into the rock to keep our dog safely at home and out of the road.
Great product July 7, 2010 twsarah (North Pole, Alaska United States) I only had to walk the dog once around the boundary She got a buzz, (set on 2)three times. The next day we walked the border and she stayed way clear of the flags. After 2 more days of no walking the edges but letter her just run, she never went near the flags. Now we have it set on 1 and have had her get the sound 2 times is all since and both times was chasing another dog out of the yard. She heard the beep and immediatly turned around and came away from the flags. Chevy is either a very smart dog or this product works great, maybe both. Well worth the money so much better then vet bills or a flat pup.
Great, but... July 5, 2010 elissa ray (michigan) I have had this unit for several years now. I love it BUT the furnace & AC set it off when the dog comes inside. So if the collar gets left on the dog when he comes in the house and the furnace/AC come on - he gets zapped. At first we could not figure it out, we just kept finding him in the closet. Then we figured it out. This is a big problem because my huband cannot remember to take the collar off. We live in a farmhouse & we do a lot of work outside so we are always going in and out all day long. This is a huge problem and all the comments i have read no one mentions it. Everything else is great except for no "low Battery" warning. The boundaries do vary some but our dog has realized this so when he gets close to the boundry he starts walking very slowly to find out how far he can go. Really a great product. No "dead" zones. No problems at all except the one i describe above. It really upsets him to get zapped in the house. I tried putting some warning tape on the collar that hangs down a few inches hoping it would help my husband to remember to take it off when the dog comes in the house, but that does not work. I think on heavy work days I am just going to have to turn the furnace or AC off till the end of the day. I am suprised that no one else has had this problem. When we r working we leave the door ajar because we go in and out so often and so the dog does not get "stuck" outside in the heat (or cold). I still highly recommend it.
Fantastic, especially for determined dogs (4 years now!) June 29, 2010 Kathleen (Upstate NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We live in the country, so although I agree with other posters that the border can vary a bit, it's not a problem for us. Since it always gives a warning beep first, we've never had random shocks.....Max would just scoot away from the border and be fine.
We had Houdini-dog. We tried everything: tie-outs, runs, kennels, garage lock-down. With a large family of children in the picture too (accidentally leaving a door open), no matter what we tried, it was just a matter if time before Max was on the loose again. We got calls to come pick him up from kind-hearted people, annoyed people, the animal control officer (several times), the SPCA in the next town, and the Mobil Mart (2 miles away, where he was in the store enjoying pizza - yup!). It was embarrassing and sometimes very expensive.
Then we got this little beauty. In 4 years we have had a problem twice - once when the battery went dead (I now put it on my calendar to change every 6 weeks) and once when his old collar started to come apart and just needed replacing from plain old hard use.
We have very rocky land, want our dog to roam anywhere (not just a side yard) which means the wire would have had to go across our driveway since we have significant land on both sides of it, and we wanted a big radius. So digging for a wire would have been a nightmare. This thing has sat fairly unobtrusively on a shelf in my dining room for 4 years and been fantastic.
The amazing thing is how well it works for determined dogs. We consulted with our vet on how to contain Max originally, and he told us that dug-in fences will often not work with his personality type because they know once they bust the 4 foot range over the wire, they are home free. Well, I have tested this collar by walking up my driveway and I cannot believe how much quicker the beeps come and how long they last. Truly, if your dog is trying to bust through the shock, he has a long way to run! And it will keep getting faster and harder - I can't imagine a dog would make it.
When we got this a few years ago it was $400 and worth every penny. It's a lot cheaper now - a great deal!
